From Medical Leave to Six Figures: Khalid's Inspiring Journey with ScatterMind

Hey everyone,
Today, I want to highlight one of our users, Khalid (we changed his name for privacy reasons), who took medical leave for a year, and when he returned, he was informed he had six months to find a new position. This left him feeling unappreciated, unprepared, and overwhelmed. ScatterMind started helping Khalid in his job hunt in May 2023, and he received his first 6 figure offer in August 2023 before his medical leave ended. The offer allows him to relocate to a new city moving his career and life in the best direction. Here’s how we did it.
Challenges he faced
When we started off on Khalid’s journey, we identified his struggles and developed a plan to support him. Khalid was coming back from over a year of medical leave and was fighting off imposter syndrome. He asked me,
What if I can’t get another job?
What if we don’t find a job before our time is up?
What if I can’t do the job?
This comes from a person who has 2 degrees and has already done the job he was searching for. So, I knew he was more than qualified to do the job. He just needed a little push and a plan to give him confidence. We faced a few other speed bumps along our journey. They included
Lack of consistency: Khalid would apply to jobs for one week, and then he’d miss another. Same when it came to practicing for interviews. Consistency is the key to reaching any goal.
Self-sabotage: As we got closer to the interview, the pressure boiled over and he froze like a deer in headlights. He coped by smoking weed instead of practicing.
Lack of motivation: With an undecided timeline for when he’d receive a job, it was easy to lose hope, sink into a depression, and give up on the job hunt.
Lack of direction: When we started practicing for interviews, he was unsure what was the best way to prep for the interviews
As we discovered each challenge, we developed a solution to ensure Khalid stayed motivated and crossed the finish line.
How we helped
When trying to achieve long-term goals, it’s important to understand the challenges you’ll face and develop systems to ensure you cross the finish line. At ScatterMind, we break down your challenges so that it’s easier for you to reach your goals. Here’s how we did it:
Imposter Syndrome: During our weekly calls, I constantly reminded Khalid of what he had achieved rather than what he hadn’t. It’s easy to beat yourself up and focus on the misses rather than the achievements.
Lack of consistency: When picking up new habits, it’s easy to revert to your normal behaviors, but when regularly checking in with a coach, it’s hard to give up on your goals. Our regular check-ins allowed Khalid to bounce back from bad weeks, stay consistent, and stay positive.
Self-sabotage: When we reached the final round, we met daily to ensure that Khalid wasn't getting in his own way. During our check-ins, I’d actively practice with him to ensure he was getting his reps in. With accountability and tasks to do, it’s hard to neglect your responsibilities.
Lack of motivation: It’s extremely easy to lose motivation for a long-term goal. Every day, you work without seeing any clear results. During our journey, I created milestones based on effort, so we always had something to chase and celebrate. For example, instead of only measuring how many job offers we had, we measured how many jobs we applied to and how much time we practiced for interviews. When we met those effort goals, we celebrated! This allowed us to stay motivated!
Lack of direction: We broke down the key measurables for his interviews like the number of job applications sent and time spent practicing interviews to ensure we hit those targets. I gave him a task list between our meetings to guide him and ensure we were moving forward.
